John Baackes is Chief Executive Officer of L.A. Care Health Plan. He brings more than 30 years of health care experience. Before joining L.A. Care, he served as president of Philadelphia-based AmeriHealth Caritas VIP Plans where he oversaw the Medicare Advantage business unit. Prior to that position, Mr. Baackes was CEO of Senior Whole Health in Cambridge, MA, a voluntary health care plan for more than 10,000 low-income seniors in Massachusetts and New York. Mr. Baackes holds a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and is a native of Evanston, IL.

Steven M. Asch MD, MPH is a Vice -Chief for Research, Division of General Medical Disciplines at Stanford, where he leads more than 150 faculty, and the Chief of Health Services Research at the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System. He develops and evaluates quality measurement and improvement systems, often in the care of patients with communicable or chronic disease. Dr. Asch has led several national projects developing broad-based quality measurement tools for veterans, Medicare beneficiaries, and the community. He directs the Center of Innovation to Implementation (Ci2i) which aims to maximize value by testing organizational innovations to make medical care more collaborative and efficient using implementation science methods…
